What are the specialties of third generation computers (1963-1971)
The development of the integrated circuit was the hallmark of the third generation of computers. Transistors were miniaturized and placed on silicon chips or integrated circuits, which drastically increased the speed and efficiency o computers. Punched cards and printouts were replaced with keyboards and monitors. These computers could run many different programmes at one time, with a central program that monitored the memory. For the first time, computers became accessible to ordinary people because they were smaller and cheaper than first and second generation computers.
