What is the difference between an analog and digital computer?

Published on by S.Kamakshi

All computers, whether mechanical or electronic, can be divided into two distinct classes, depending on the form in which information is handled. If the information is handled in the form of letters or digits, they are classed as digital computers. If the information is handled in the form of an electrical equivalent of physical variables, they are classed as analogue computers.
You can also say that in a digital computer, all the information that is stored is in the form of just two numbers -0 and 1. In the analogue computer however, the information is stored as continuous numbers. Analogue computers were well known in the 1940s. Now analogue computation is mainly a research subject.
